University of Maryland Eastern Shore – Department of Natural Sciences

The Department of Natural Sciences (DNS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor specializing in bioorganic chemistry.We seek candidates who will support a diverse student population and prepare students broadly for futures in industry, government, and graduate and professional schools. Teaching responsibilities supporting our ACS-certified chemistry program include organic chemistry and biochemistry and courses in the candidate’s specific areas of expertise. Candidates who will create a strong, collaborative research program that complements and strengthens DNS research activity in the chemistry-biology-environment nexus with expertise in metabolomics and proteomics are particularly encouraged to apply. Strong opportunities exist to collaborate in the pharmaceutical sciences, animal and plant sciences, and marine sciences with a cadre of recently-hired new scientists across UMES. DNS houses the biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and environmental science undergraduate programs and graduate programs in chemistry, marine-estuarine and environmental sciences, and toxicology creating an outstanding collaborative environment. Required qualifications include a PhD in Chemistry or related field from an accredited institution. Experience teaching and/or mentoring undergraduates, implementing research projects bridging organic and biochemistry, and a record of scholarly activity are preferred.Application review will begin January 15, 2026 and continue until April 1, 2026. The University of Georgia – Department of Plant Biology

The Department of Plant Biology at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure track, Assistant Professor position in Plant Synthetic Biology for Strategic Resources Research. We seek candidates with expertise in protein and metabolic engineering to advance plantbased discovery, synthesis, or capture of materials and resources of strategic importance. Areas of interest include the synthesis of critical bio-commodities, the development of phytomining platforms for elemental recovery or remediation, and the engineering of plant systems to produce sustainable and functionalized materials for the emerging bioeconomy. Candidates who integrate data science and artificial intelligence to enhance design precision, pathway engineering, synthetic reprogramming, or discovery are especially encouraged to apply. This
position offers exceptional opportunities for collaboration with faculty across UGA’s extensive network of researchers in the basic and applied plant sciences.

Competitive applicants will have a strong record of research productivity and achievement, a well-developed and forward-looking research plan, and a demonstrated commitment to effective teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels within a respectful and welcoming environment. A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in plant biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field is required at the time of appointment; at least one year of postdoctoral experience is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and actively contribute to departmental and university service.

Terragia

Terragia (terragiabiofuel.com) is a startup founded in October, 2022 dedicated to development and commercial deployment of low-cost technology for production of cellulosic biofuels. Built on decades of pioneering research led by Dartmouth Professor Lee Lynd, Terragia’s unique consolidated bioprocessing (CBP) technology has documented potential to be cost-competitive with fossil fuels while realizing net removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The company seeks to hire 10 people with a diversity of skills to staff a joint development project undertaken with a strategic partner. We are inspired by the prospect of playing a key role in climate stabilization and rural economic development and are looking to rapidly add capable individuals to our R&D team.
