JOB POSTINGS

CBI Positions

The Biosciences Division (BSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a mid-career or senior level Geneticist with a strong background in plant genomics, genetics, and bioinformatics to join our multi-disciplinary team of investigators exploring and understanding the network of genes, proteins, metabolites, and environmental signals that lead to improved plant characteristics and performance. The selected candidate will play a critical role in leading a broad, integrated approach to enhance fundamental understanding of genetic controls of plant productivity, biomass quality, and sustainability in bioenergy-relevant plants. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute research to the areas of genomic prediction, genomic selection, plant systems adaptation and resilience, and develop new capabilities towards these targeted areas. This candidate will have direct access to world-class facilities in high-speed computing, neutron characterization of soft tissues, and multi-modality imaging.  For more information and to apply, please click here.

The Urbanowicz Lab at the University of Georgia’s Complex Carbohydrate Research Center invites applicants for a fully funded postdoctoral research position available immediately. The laboratory is leveraging the development of new tools for analysis of carbohydrate active enzymes and innovating high throughput assays for validation of gene function. We’re especially seeking in applicants that are interested in the intersection of plant biology, biochemistry, glycobiology, and phenotypic variation.

The position is focused on the application of a combination of analytic techniques to determine composition and structure of carbohydrates during microbial fermentation. The project will involve identification and characterization of enzymes that act to hydrolyze or modify complex plant carbohydrates. https://www.ugajobsearch.com/hr/postings/391080

Successful applicants will hold a PhD degree in plant biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, or bio-engineering/applied biological sciences. We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist with excellent laboratory skills, who functions well in a team, and has a track record of research in the field of plant biochemistry. Please send your CV including, a description of research interests and skills, together with the names and email addresses of 3 referees, and a motivation letter, to [email protected] with ‘postdoc plant cell wall’ in the subject line.

External Positions

UT-ORII – Synthetic Biology – This position will be associated with the UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute’s Circular Bioeconomy Systems (CBS) Convergent Research Initiative (CRI), whose mission is to develop transformative strategies for managing, valorizing, and extending the lifespan of each carbon atom. They aim to use emerging science to produce materials from sustainable carbon sources, pioneering the shift toward low-energy and low-carbon-intensity agriculture, and manufacturing. At full strength, the CBS CRI will include ~20 member investigators from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). The CBS CRI supports its interdisciplinary researchers by offering networking opportunities with fellow scientists and bioeconomy stakeholders, facilitating collaborative experiments and proposal development, providing mentorship from senior CRI researchers, and offering tailored professional development opportunities.  For more information and applying, please click here.
